Yearly Screening

I use ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaire) to help prepare children to enter Kindergarten. I screen each child (birth to 6 yrs) within 45 days of when they enter my program and then again at the beginning of each calender year (no more than a year apart).

Why?

For children between the ages of birth and 6 years I use the ASQ questionnaire to check a child's general development. The results help determine if a child's development is on schedule and to check that child's social emotional development. The earlier a child is diagnosed and treated for developmental delay, the better opportunity that child has to reach his/her full potential.

After a child is screened

I discuss the results with that parents/caregivers and show them activities they can do at home to help their child grow in areas they are behind in. These areas are Communication, Gross Motor. Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Personal Social. If we feel a child needs more help I refer that child to a specialist (Doctor or Early Intervention).
